In 2003, she became a professional boxer. The fame of her became more prominent when she began appearing in movies and television shows. Tonya was named a national star in 1994 after Nancy Kerrigan who was Tonya's main competitor was killed in the moments before her National Championship. Many academics have used her life story as a way to judge and evaluate students. The biopic, I, Tonya, was made in 2017.
